Automation & Infeed Systems
Build a Faster, More Consistent Automated Bagging Process Around the SEVERN-DT
Severn Packaging supplies four dedicated automation systems for the SEVERN-DT tabletop bagging machine. Count hand-loaded parts with the SEVERN-CC, orient and feed components automatically with the SEVERN-BF, dispense products to a target weight with the SEVERN-WS, or verify completed packs with the SEVERN-CW. Each system is engineered around the product, target pack quantity, required throughput and available floor space.

Why Automate Product Feeding and Pack Verification?
Remove Manual Counting Bottlenecks — Controlled indexing, counting and discharge allow operators to load product efficiently without repeatedly counting every finished pack by hand.
Improve Pack Consistency — Product sensors, weighing controls and final checkweighing help reduce short packs, overfills and avoidable rework.
Increase Useful Output — Matching the infeed to the SEVERN-DT helps the bagger operate more consistently instead of waiting for manually presented products.
Automate at the Right Level — Choose a hand-loaded counting conveyor, a fully automatic feeder, a weighing system or a complete line with final pack verification.

The four configurations below show counting, automated feeding, weighing and final pack-verification concepts designed around the SEVERN-DT bagging platform.

One Bagger, Four Routes to Automation
The SEVERN-DT provides the signalling capability needed to coordinate product release, bag presentation, sealing and downstream verification.
- SEVERN-CC Counting Conveyor — Flighted conveyor for hand-loaded parts, kits and sub-assemblies
- SEVERN-BF Automatic Bowl Feeder — Automatically sorts, orients and presents suitable components
- SEVERN-WS Weigh Scale — Dispenses product to a programmed target weight
- SEVERN-CW Checkweigher — Verifies completed packs and identifies out-of-tolerance results
- Dedicated signalling between the infeed, SEVERN-DT and downstream equipment
- Application trials used to confirm product behaviour and achievable throughput
- HMI controls and stored settings available according to configuration
- Sensors monitor product movement, discharge and bagging sequence
- Optional guarding, hoppers, chutes, accumulation and reject handling
- Installation, commissioning, operator training and ongoing support from Severn Packaging

For Components, Fixings, Kits, Granular Products and Verified Packs
These systems suit manufacturing, distribution, fulfilment and contract-packing operations where manual counting, feeding or checking limits the output of the SEVERN-DT.
Frequently Asked Questions
Use the SEVERN-CC for operator-loaded counted parts or kits, the SEVERN-BF when suitable components must be automatically oriented and fed, the SEVERN-WS when product is best dispensed by weight, and the SEVERN-CW when the finished bag requires a final weight check.
The current counting-conveyor platform is manufacturer-rated at up to 50 batches per minute. Actual output depends on the product, target count, operator loading, conveyor setup, bag size and SEVERN-DT cycle.
Yes. The flighted format gives operators controlled loading positions for mixed parts, kits and sub-assemblies. The final arrangement should be trialled using representative components and the required pack sequence.
No. Bowl feeders are product-specific and depend on component geometry, stability, surface finish and the required orientation. Sample parts are required to establish the appropriate tooling and achievable feed rate.
The SEVERN-WS controls the amount of product entering the bag by target weight. The SEVERN-CW checks the completed sealed pack afterwards and can flag or reject packs outside the permitted tolerance.
Usually, yes. The SEVERN-DT is designed with external signalling capability. Severn Packaging will review the existing machine configuration, controls, available space and required performance before confirming the upgrade.
