SoftLayer Inflatable Wrapping
An on-demand protective wrapping alternative to traditional bubble wrap
SoftLayer is a lightweight inflatable wrapping material designed to cushion surfaces, edges and delicate products inside the carton. Supplied as a compact flat roll and inflated only when required, it can substantially reduce the storage space associated with bulky pre-inflated bubble wrap. The connected air-cell structure flexes around the product, creating a clean and consistent layer of protection for e-commerce, manufacturing and distribution applications.

SoftLayer Versus Traditional Bubble Wrap
Storage — SoftLayer remains flat until inflated, reducing incoming-roll and pack-bench storage compared with bulky pre-inflated bubble wrap. The comparison image shows a compact uninflated SoftLayer roll against the warehouse space occupied by conventional bubble-wrap rolls.
Material use — In one like-for-like customer wrapping trial, the pack used 1.3 metres of SoftLayer compared with 3.4 metres of standard bubble wrap: 61% less material length for that application. Results will vary by product, wrapping method and protection requirement, so representative packing trials are recommended.
Wrapping — Connected air cells flex around products and can be folded, layered or wrapped to protect faces, corners and edges.
Dispensing and control — Material can be produced at the packing point or delivered to multiple benches, with inflation and width selected around the product and required protection.

Where SoftLayer Works Well
SoftLayer is suited to products that benefit from surface cushioning and controlled separation inside the carton, including components, bottles, ceramics, electronics, finished goods and other scratch-sensitive or delicate items. It can be wrapped around individual products or used as an interlayer where several items share one pack.
For very sharp, unusually heavy or highly fragile products, a packing trial should confirm whether SoftLayer should be used alone or alongside additional blocking and bracing.

SoftLayer is available in 400mm and 800mm widths to suit different product sizes, coverage requirements and inflatable packaging systems. The lightweight 24-micron film is supplied on compact rolls for on-demand inflation. Standard and recycled-content options are available, including GreenLine with at least 30% recycled material and RecycLine with at least 90% recycled material, subject to the required format.
